Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has described the death of retired Justice Stephen Laoye Popoola as the loss of a great jurist.
The governor said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, noting that retired Justice Popoola was an erudite and courageous judge as well as a patriotic Nigerian.

He condoled with the family of the deceased jurist, praying to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss, while also granting repose to his soul.
According to Governor Makinde, the retired Judge proved his mettle on the bench and also demonstrated his commitment to the progress of Oyo State and Nigeria, having served in different capacities.
Governor Makinde made mention of how a seven-man committee headed by retired Justice Popoola in 2019 helped his administration’s determination to reorganise local government administration in the state.
Recall that the Justice Popoola-led seven-man committee investigated the accounts and finances of the 33 local governments (LGs) and 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) from January 2018 to May 2019, upon Makinde’s assumption of office.
