
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of esteemed senior journalist Dr. Leon Usigbe, who died on Friday, July 25, 2025, after a brief illness. Dr. Usigbe, initially treated at the State House Clinic before being transferred to the Federal Medical Center.
Hailing from Uromi, Edo State, he worked with Vanguard Newspaper in Katsina, Kaduna, and Abuja, covering the House of Representatives.

He later served as Media Aide to former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Masari.
Dr Usigbe returned to Vanguard before joining the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, where he was promoted to Bureau Chief.
He covered the State House and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A dedicated professional, Dr. Usigbe’s contributions profoundly impacted journalism. His unwavering commitment to truth and integrity will be greatly missed by colleagues, friends, and the wider community.
He was a journalist to be proud of—one who upheld the ethics of the profession with dignity and courage.
A tireless reporter, he was deeply committed to truth, accuracy, and giving voice to the voiceless.
His passion for ethical journalism and storytelling earned him immense respect and admiration.
His passing comes at a crucial time when the media’s role in promoting peace, development, and accountability is vital. His absence leaves a significant void.
