His Imperial Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has joined his ancestors at the age of 91 on Sunday, shortly after President Bola Tinubu announced the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adetona was one of the few prominent monarchs that supported the then National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), that fought former military dictator, late Sanni Abacha for validation of the June 12, 1993 presidential election annulled by President Ibrahim Babangida.

Oba Adetona, one of the longest-reigning traditional rulers in the country, ascended the throne in 1960 at barely 25 years old.
While confirming the monarch’s demise, Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the monarch joined his ancestors the same day that the former President, Muhammadu Buhari died in London, the United Kingdom.
In his 65-year reign, Ojude Oba, an annual festival which holds on third day of Eid-ul-Adha (Ileya) usually brings Ijebus together during every Sallah, became a global event which Globacom is one of the major sponsors.
