Yunus Akintunde Emerges Best Senator Of The Year

Oyo NUJ Honours Distinguished Lawmaker

The Distinguished Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Senator Dr. Yunus Akintunde, has been named Best Senator of the Year by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.

In a statement signed by Comrade Demola Babalola, Chairman of the Oyo State Council of NUJ, the union explained that Senator Akintunde was selected for the prestigious honour following a thorough assessment of his sterling performance, impactful representation, and commitment to public service as a first-term senator in the 10th National Assembly.

According to the NUJ statement: “Given your contributions to the development of the society, Oyo State, and Nigeria in general as a Distinguished Senator representing the good people of Oyo Central, the union deems it necessary to confer on you NUJ AWARD OF BEST SENATOR OF THE YEAR during the Press Week..

The award presentation will take place during the 2025 NUJ Press Week in Ibadan, which will feature a series of activities celebrating excellence and professionalism in public service and journalism.

Since his election into the 10th Senate, Senator Akintunde has sponsored and supported key legislative initiatives that have made significant impacts across sectors such as education and human capacity development, energy and environmental management, commerce and finance, and regional integration.

Beyond his legislative duties, Senator Akintunde has also implemented several empowerment and capacity-building programmes, positively transforming the lives of professionals, artisans, and youth both within and beyond Oyo Central Senatorial District. His commitment to grassroots development has earned him widespread commendation as a performing and people-focused senator.

An expert in Energy and Environmental Management, Senator Akintunde holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physics from Lagos State University and a Ph.D. in Energy Studies from the University of Ibadan.

He currently serves as Chairman, Senate Committee on the South West Development Commission, and previously chaired the Senate Committee on Environment, in addition to his membership of several strategic committees in the National Assembly.
