Oyo NUJ Celebrates V/Chairman, Comrade Seye Ojo, on Elevation to NUJ Board of Trustees

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has congratulated its Vice Chairman, Comrade Seye Ojo, on his recent elevation as a member of the NUJ Board of Trustees (BOT) at the ongoing National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kano State.

In a joint statement signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola, and the State Secretary, Comrade Sola Oladapo, the union expressed deep appreciation to the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhazan Yahyah, for the honour bestowed on the Oyo State Council through the appointment of Ojo.

The statement described the elevation as “a well-deserved recognition of Comrade Ojo’s years of dedication, loyalty, and selfless service to the journalism profession and the NUJ.”

Ojo, a multiple award-winning journalist, with The Sun Newspapers, was a former Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Oyo State before being elected Vice Chairman of the Oyo NUJ Council, where he served faithfully alongside Chairman, Babalola.

Ojo has won awards, including the Notore Chemical Prize for Environment Reporter of the Year of the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) in 2024, and also the 2024 Outstanding Achievement Award of The Sun Newspapers. He is the winner of the State Honours Award of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Gombe State in 2007.

He studied Mass Communication in The Polytechnic Ibadan, and Ajayi Crowther University.

He has attended many trainings and workshops organised by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organisation (WHO), Breakthrough Action Nigeria (BA-N), NUJ/Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), United States Consulate General in Lagos, and many others.

In 2008, he was among journalists from Oyo State that participated in the Media Tour of Ghana.

During his sojourn for knowledge in The Polytechnic Ibadan, he served at various time as Chairman, Electoral Committee, Association of Student Communicators’ (ASCOM), Mass Communication Department; General Secretary, Electoral Committee, Faculty of Business and Communication Studies Students’ Association (FABCOMSSA); Public Relations Officer, Press Council; Sports Editor II, Eruwa Polyrays (A publication of Mass Communication Department); and Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Mirror Press Club.

Before joining The Sun Newspapers, he worked briefly with Nigerian Tribune, and a community newspaper, known as Oyo Echo.

The statement noted that Ojo’s tenure as Vice Chairman of NUJ, Oyo State Council, has been marked by unwavering commitment to the growth of the union, steadfast loyalty to its leadership, and an exemplary display of professional ethics.

Ojo also represented NUJ in the Committee on Management/Disbursement of Bodija Explosion Relief Fund of Oyo State Government from 2024 to 2025, as well as Oyo State Social Mobilisation Technical Committee (SSOMTEC), and of recent, Oyo State Social Behavioural Change Committee (SBC).

“Your elevation to the BOT is an evidence of your hard work, consistency, and the trust you have earned over the years from colleagues and the national leadership of our great union,” the statement read in part.

While celebrating the milestone, the Oyo NUJ leadership prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and good health for Comrade Ojo as he embarks on this new chapter of service.

“We are confident that you will bring the same dedication, integrity, and sense of responsibility to the BOT, and that your contributions will help shape the future of the NUJ for the better,” the statement added.

The Oyo NUJ also reaffirmed its support for Comrade Ojo in his new role and pledged to work with him in advancing the collective interests of journalists across Nigeria.
