Nigeria’s Rep at Global Council Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

Nigeria’s representative on the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) Parliament in Geneva Switzerland, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Dhikrullahi Olajide, has appealed to world leaders on an urgent need for immediate ceasefire, over the continued airstrikes on the Gaza strip by Isreali forces.

Addressing Journalists, in Abuja, Nigeria, on the escalation of military conflict in Gaza, Hon. Adedeji Olajide, explained that to prevent further loss of civilian lives and damage to essential infrastructure, a two-state solution will bring about a viable path to lasting peace in the region and mitigate further violation of international humanitarian laws.

The lawmaker, cited the burning of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza by Israeli forces, as an example of heinous crime and a blatant assault on human rights, calling for an end to the Israeli aggression.

“The government and people of Nigeria condemn this widespread destruction. We continue to voice our concerns over the situation in Gaza and the immeasurable suffering inflicted by the conflict and also call for an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful resolution in line with international humanitarian laws,” Olajide stated.

It will be recalled that the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace parliament, under the leadership of President Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, has consistently condemned such hostilities, emphasizing that targeting civilians, civil institutions and health facilities, contravene international humanitarian law and human rights.

Hon. Olajide, called upon the international community to intervene promptly to halt the military escalation and ensure the protection of civilians.

He advocated for the establishment of humanitarian corridors to facilitate a safe, sustainable delivery of aid to Gaza and also called for the activation of a political and diplomatic resolution to the crisis, emphasizing the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of the State of Palestine in alignment with international legitimacy resolutions.

“With the situation unfolding, the global community is watching closely and hoping for a swift resolution that prioritizes the protection of innocent lives and the restoration of peace in the region.”

“The destruction of infrastructure and the targeting of civilians has continued to draw widespread international condemnation and I can assure the global community of Nigeria’s support for dialogue, tolerance and peace as fundamental principles for achieving global stability and sustainable development.”
