In Kano, INEC rejects claims of withdrawal from appeal and takes action against its Legal Officer.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted claims of withdrawing from the appeal process in the ongoing Kano governorship election petition case.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education committee, Sam Olumekun, clarified in a statement in Abuja on Saturday that the commission’s legal officer, who allegedly withdrew from the case, has been reprimanded. He emphasized that the letter suggesting INEC’s withdrawal was unauthorized, has been rescinded, and the officer responsible has been disciplined.

INEC affirmed its commitment to participate in the case when litigants involve the commission and instructed its lawyers to proceed according to established policies, which remain unchanged.
