Dotun Sanusi-Sponsored Weightlifters Bring Glory to Oyo With Impressive Medal Haul

In a stunning demonstration of athletic prowess, five weightlifters from Oyo State, sponsored by Asiwaju Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Chairman of Ilaji Group, brought glory to the state at the Engr. Habu Gumel Weightlifting Open Championship held in Abuja.

The team, consisting of four female and one male competitor, secured an impressive haul of 12 medals. The female weightlifters were the highlight of the championship, collectively clinching nine gold medals.

Leading the charge was Lawal Rafiatu Folashade, who dominated the 59kg category, winning three gold medals. Osijo Mary Taiwo replicated this outstanding feat in the 87kg category, while Liadi Taiwo added another three gold medals in the 81kg category.

Fathia Owoyele showcased resilience in the 49kg category, earning three bronze medals. Meanwhile, Ojo Adekanye, the sole male representative, displayed commendable effort, finishing fifth in the 55kg category.

This remarkable performance underscores the unwavering support of Asiwaju Jubril Dotun Sanusi (Ilaji) for sports development in Oyo State. His sponsorship not only facilitated the athletes’ participation but also demonstrated his commitment to nurturing young talents and fostering excellence in sports.

The achievements of these weightlifters at the championship stand as a source of inspiration and a call for greater investment in grassroots sports development. Asiwaju Sanusi’s dedication continues to pave the way for Oyo State’s athletes to thrive on both national and international stages.
