Democracy Day: Remain Hopeful Under Tinubu’s Leadership, Senator Alli Tells Nigerians

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast in their collective journey towards a greater nation under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

This is contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Ibadan.

Alli said that President Tinubu was committed to addressing the nation’s challenges, while building on the foundations of progress and development.

The Senate Committee Chairman on Electoral Matters, expressed hope that the nation would overcome obstacles and achieve a greater Nigeria in togetherness.

“Today we stand at a crucial juncture in our nation’s history, filled with hope and the promise of a brighter future.

“I urge every Nigerian to remain hopeful and steadfast in our collective journey towards a greater nation under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu,” he said.

He reflected on the nation’s democratic journey, saying it was essential to remember and honour the sacrifices of Chief MKO Abiola, GCFR , a true martyr of Nigeria’s democracy.

The lawmaker said that Abiola’s unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and equity laid the groundwork for the freedoms they enjoyed today.

According to him, his sacrifice in the face of great personal adversity serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the price paid for our democratic gains.

“Abiola’s legacy is one of courage and resilience. He stood firm in his demand for his June 12 mandate, even at the cost of his own life.”

Alli said that Abiola’s incarceration and ultimate demise were not in vain, as they catalysed the democratic transformation witnessed today.

“We owe it to his memory to continue striving for the values he held dear. Values that will guide us towards a more just and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to also remember and celebrate other heroes who fought tirelessly for the nation’s democracy.

The lawmaker said that their sacrifices and contributions paved way for the opportunities they now have to build a better nation.

Alli said that it was through their enduring spirits they drew inspiration to persist in efforts to strengthen the nation’s democratic institutions and promote good governance.

The lawmaker urged Nigerians to remain united and hopeful as they forge ahead under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

“Together, we can build a Nigeria that fulfills the aspirations of all its citizens. A nation marked by peace, progress, and prosperity,” he said.
