Before the world came to know her as Asewotoremecca, the celebrated Nollywood actress, Toyin Adegbola had already embodied the rare qualities that distinguish exceptional individuals. Away from the cameras and movie sets, she is a remarkably humble, selfless and indefatigable woman whose boundless energy and unwavering commitment to service are impossible to ignore. I proudly describe her as “Obinrin Meta”—three women in one body—not because of her fame, but because I have witnessed, at close range, her extraordinary capacity for hard work, resilience and ability to deliver results where others would surrender.
I served on two committees with her; first, last year, second, this year; the first, she was vice-chairman, the second as the substantive chairman. Then, I spotted the unreported side of her.
She’s service personified with a powerful drive that makes things happen even if she needs to starve herself of her meal and sleep. She’s three women in one body. Obinrin meta.
In truth, I had my reservation informed that we were going to sit together on the first committee for an historic ceremony of our mutual elderly friend.
My understandable reservation melted into appreciation of a workhaolic who would not take no for an answer. She would say “give me the number.” Within 24 hours, result on our table.
Through our interactions, story of her crawling beginning in Igbagi Akoko, Ondo State educated me more about her personage. Through our interactions, I see why she is wanted and seen on different committees.
She’s result-oriented, easily squeezing water from a stone to save all from torture of thirst during dry season.
