‘A Round Peg In A Round Hole’ – Oyelade Hails Appointment of Prof Babatunde as SSG

The appointment of Prof. Musbau Babatunde as the new Secretary to the Oyo State Government (SSG) has been welcomed with optimism by the Commissioner for Information, Prince ‘Dotun Oyelade, who believes it will significantly enhance bureaucratic development and strengthen public service efficiency in the state. Prof. Babatunde, a seasoned economist and former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, has pledged total commitment to coordinating government policies in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision, following his courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Information.

The newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Musibau Babatunde, performed his first public duty with a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade.

The Economics Professor was warmly received by Prince Oyelade and senior officials of the ministry in what was described as a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration within the state’s governance structure.

Shortly after the courtesy call, the new SSG proceeded to the ministry’s studio for the traditional Photo Shoot session symbolizing the formal commencement of his official duties.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner for Information, described Prof. Babatunde as “a round peg in a round hole,” praising his wealth of experience and excellent working relationship with colleagues across the government.

He expressed confidence that the SSG’s leadership style would further strengthen government operations and promote sustainable development in Oyo State.

He recalled that Prof Babatunde was given the opportunity by Gov Makinde to spearhead the Oyo state Economic Blue Print 2019-2023 to date and has been a useful kitchen cabinet member ever since.

In his brief response, Prof.Musbau Babatunde described his appointment as a “call to service,” pledging total commitment to the effective coordination of government policies in line with the vision of Governor Seyi Makinde. He added that Oyo State’s budget performance has continued to improve and now surpasses that of previous administrations due to initiatives introduced into the state’s economic planning and management structure.

“We have introduced much more initiative into the economic planning management structure. Oyo State is being ranked consistently above its peers, especially in developmental governance and prudent financial management,” he said.

Prof. Babatunde was appointed SSG on Monday, January 5, 2026.
A former lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Ibadan, who hails from Oyo, joined the Makinde administration in 2019 as Special Adviser on Economic Affairs before later serving as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning until his latest appointment.
