
The Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO), is set to commence academic activities before the end of the year, following full assurance from the Federal Ministry of Education.
Pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Olaniyi Babayemi, recently disclosed this in a statement posted on his official Facebook He described the institution as a science-driven centre of excellence where agriculture meets technology.

According to him, FUNATO is designed to provide cutting-edge programmes across science, engineering, agriculture, and technology-based disciplines in line with its vision to nurture innovation and contribute to Nigeria’s development.
“All science disciplines will be available, alongside a comprehensive list of engineering courses, reflecting the ‘Technology’ component of our name,” Prof. Babayemi stated.
He further explained that the university will also run programmes in Agricultural Sciences, Renewable Natural Resources, Veterinary Medicine, Food Science and Human Ecology, Environmental and Earth Sciences, as well as Management and Innovation Studies.
Altogether, FUNATO has proposed 11 Colleges housing 68 academic programmes. The final list of take-off courses will be determined after the forthcoming National Universities Commission (NUC) resource verification visit.
Meanwhile, the FUNATO Planning Committee, chaired by Mr. Moyo Jacob Ajekiigbe, OFR, is working round the clock to ensure that facilities at the temporary site are ready. Prof. Babayemi revealed that all ongoing structural works would be completed by October 10, describing the development as “a clear testament to the commitment, vision, and dedication driving this great institution.”
He assured that FUNATO is poised to “redefine the future of science, agriculture, and technology education in Nigeria” by empowering young minds and fostering innovation.
The Vice Chancellor urged the public to remain attentive as the university prepares for its official take-off.
“Together, we are building a world-class university that will nurture innovation, empower young minds, and advance national development. The future begins at FUNATO,” he said.
