United We Stand: Oke-Ogun’s Plea for Rotational Leadership and Inclusive Governance

By Favour Adéwọyin

In every generation, there comes a defining moment when a people must rise above their differences, close ranks, and speak with one voice in pursuit of a collective destiny. For Òkèògùn, that moment is now. The year 2027 presents a historic opportunity for our region to take its rightful place in the political leadership of Ọ̀yọ́ State — not through sentiment or agitation, but through unity of purpose, strength of character, and the power of collective resolve.

For far too long, Òkèògùn — the land of great minds, abundant resources, and resilient people — has remained on the fringes of political power. Despite its immense contribution to the social and economic development of Ọ̀yọ́ State, our region has not been given the chance to produce a governor. Yet, across Nigeria, other states have embraced the principle of rotational leadership — a practice that ensures fairness, justice, equity, and inclusivity among their constituent zones. It is time for Ọ̀yọ́ State to do the same.

But this noble aspiration will only become a reality when Òkèògùn speaks with one voice. Our strength lies not in the loudness of individual ambitions, but in the harmony of a shared vision. When we are united, we are unstoppable; when divided, we become easy prey to political manipulation and external domination. The world does not listen to a scattered crowd — it listens to a united chorus.

Let no religion, community, or political affiliation divide us. Let the people of Òkèho, Ìlerò, Òtu Ọ̀kákà, Ìpàpó, Ìsẹ́yìn, Adó-Àwáyè, Ṣakí, Kìṣí, Ìgànná, Ìwéré, Ìjìó, Àgọ́-Àrẹ́, Ṣèpètèrí,Tedé, Ọ̀jẹ́-Owódé, Àgọ́-Àmọ́dù, Ìgbòho, Ìgbẹ́tì, Ìràwọ̀, Òfìkì, Ọ̀wọ, Báàṣí, Ìdìkó, Igbójàyè, Kọ̀mu, Babaọdẹ and all our towns that space won’t permit me to mention rise above local interests and rally around the common goal — an Òkèògùn person as the next Governor of Ọ̀yọ́ State. Let us foster synergy among our leaders, camaraderie among our youths, and cooperation among our elders. Let us reject bitterness, rivalry, and disunity. Instead, let love, friendship, and brotherhood define our campaign for equity.

We must also reach out in goodwill to other regions — Ìbàdàn, Ọ̀yọ́, Ọgbómọ̀ṣọ́, and Ìbàràpá — not as adversaries, but as partners in progress. For rotational governorship is not a war; it is an appeal to conscience, a call for inclusivity, and a step toward sustainable peace and balanced development. When every region has a voice in governance, there is a deeper sense of belonging, mutual respect, and collective ownership of the state’s destiny.

Òkèògùn has all it takes — competent sons and daughters, tested administrators, visionary leaders, and courageous advocates. What remains is for us to close our ranks, bury our egos, and walk together in faith and purpose. Our collective dream must outweigh individual ambition. Our common goal must overshadow personal interest. Our unity must become our strongest campaign message.

The dawn of power rotation in Ọ̀yọ́ State will not only mark a political victory for Òkèògùn; it will also open the door for other marginalised zones to have their turn in the spirit of fairness and justice. History beckons on us to act with wisdom, love, and solidarity — for posterity will not forgive a generation that allowed internal division to waste a golden opportunity.

Without any bias for the symbol of any political party, let us remember the story of a bundle of broomsticks. When the broomsticks stand alone, they are easily broken. But when tied together, they become strong, firm, and unbreakable. The same truth applies to Òkèògùn today. Alone, we can be defeated; together, we can make history.

So, let every son and daughter of Òkèògùn hold a broomstick of unity and bind it tightly with the rope of love. Let us speak with one voice, move with one purpose, and march toward 2027 as one family with one destiny under one umbrella. For only when Òkèògùn stands together will our dream of producing the next Governor of Ọ̀yọ́ State become a shining reality.

Together, we rise. Divided, we fall. Òkèògùn must speak with one voice — now or never.
