Journalists Commended for Professionalism as NUJIC Ends Press Week

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Information Chapel (NUJIC), has concluded its 2025 Press Week with a special thanksgiving service held at the Secretariat Central Mosque, Agodi, Ibadan.

The event, attended by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information; Mr. Rotimi Babalola, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, and other top government officials, journalists, and other dignitaries, marked the end of a week-long celebration and provided an opportunity for stakeholders to commend journalists for their professionalism and commitment to credible reportage.

Speaking during the Thanksgiving service, the Vice Chairman of the Secretariat Mosque, Alhaji Rasak.Raji commended journalists for their professionalism and commitment to credible reportage. He urged them to remain steadfast in upholding truth and accuracy in their stories, adding that their work plays a vital role in promoting good governance.

He particularly praised the Hon. Commissioner, Prince Dotun Oyelade, described him as a dedicated man who has consistently defended and projected the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration. According to him, the Commissioner’s prompt rejoinders and factual clarifications have helped to counter false narratives aimed at discrediting the government.

Alhaji appreciated the journalists in the Information Chapel for their consistent efforts in keeping the public well-informed about government programmes and policies.
Earlier,in his Sermon, one of the Imams of the Mosque,Ustaz Abdul Hamid emphasized the need for journalists to always verify and ensure the authenticity of their stories before disseminating them to the public, noting that fake news causes a lot of havoc in society.

He maintained that journalists are indispensable in our society, as without accurate and genuine information, no society can move forward.
He commended the leadership of the Union in the chapel for the good work they have been doing in effectively disseminating information about the activities of the government.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the NUJ Information Chapel, Comrade Ismail Fasasi expressed gratitude to the mosque committee for their prayers and support.

He also appreciated the Hon. Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary for their consistent encouragement throughout the week-long activities.

“Your presence at both the opening and closing events of our celebration means a lot to us. It shows your commitment to the welfare and unity of journalists in the ministry,” Fasasi said.

He equally commended the entire 2025 NUJIC PRESS WEEK Committee members and the entire members of the chapel for their teamwork and dedication, which, he noted, contributed to the success of the 2025 Press Week celebration.

The thanksgiving service brought together members of the Information Chapel to offer prayers of gratitude for a successful week and to seek divine guidance for the tasks ahead.
