
The League of Imams and Alfas of Oyo State, led by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland and Grand Imam of Oyo State, His Eminence, Sheikh AbdulGaniy Abubakry, Agbotomokekere, will honor Dr. Mustapha Abdul Aziz Akanji (Aladikun) with a prestigious title as Fakhar-l-Mumineen of Oyo State on Sunday, 5th October, 2025 at the Ibadan Central Mosque, Oja’ba, Ibadan at 10.00am.
This recognition is in appreciation of Dr. Mustapha Akanji’s outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Islam and his unwavering support for Islamic and Western education globally.

In 2011, Dr. Mustapha Akanji was Guest Speaker at the International Conference of Muslim Scholars from all over the world, organized by President Abdoulaye Wade in collaboration with Saudi Arabia with President Abdoulaye Wade, Egypt’s first scholar; the main Imams of Mecca, Ministers of Islamic Affairs of countries around the world, representatives of the International Conference, the late Imam of Aboubacar Fofana, the late Imam Idriss Kouduss and Imam LegreYaya in attendance.
He was in 2022, the Guest Lecturer at the Commission for the Appeal to Islam in Africa that was chaired by Prince Dr. Ben Salham of Saudi Arabia. Also in 2022, he was Guest Speaker at the 10th International Scientific Conference, organized by the American Academy of Higher Education in Egypt. And since 1984, he has been the Principal Imam of several mosques, including the Great Mosque of Yapougan Gesco, the Mosque of Attoban, the Mosque of the Palmeraie.
In 2022, he received Ambassador of Peace and Development Award from the Pan African Francophone Youth Organisation (OPAJEF), and Grand Officer of the African Order of Valor of the Pan African Institute of Biography (IPAB) also in 2022.
He was awarded in 2021, the special prize *’ELEPHANT D’OR 2021’* by the Pan African Organization of Francophone Youth (OPAJEF).
Springstar Magazine reliably gathered that more than 40 mosques have been built, spread across Cote D’Ivoire along with over hundred deep wells, and ten motorized boreholes built in Saki, Katsina and Daura, here in Nigeria.
In his managerial capacity, Dr Mustapha Akanji is Chief Imam and spiritual guide of several mosques as well as founder of several group of schools, Institutes, Grandes Ecoles and Universities. Through the grace of Almighty Allah, Dr Mustapha Akanji is an humble manager of over 300 employees, including holders of P.hD and Associate Professors.
Traditional Rulers expected at the installation ceremony are His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi, Oyedepo lll, the Okere of Saki; His Royal Majesty, Oba Peter Oluwole Ipade Lola, Olufon of Ifon Orolu, Ifon-Osun in Osun State as well as religious and community leaders.
