Oyo Govt Host 2025 Zonal Elimination For Ball Games

As part of the preparation for the forthcoming National Youth Games, the National Sports Commission has organized the Zonal Elimination Competition for ball games in the South Western State of Nigeria, which will commence tomorrow, Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at 8:00 AM.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable, Alhaja Wasilat Adegoke, dropped this hint today in Ibadan.

The Commissioner disclosed further that the multi-sport Zonal Elimination Competition will hold for three consecutive days at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, and the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, respectively.

She stated further that the ball games that will be competed for include Football, Basketball, Handball, Softball, Baseball, Cricket, Abula, Volleyball, Hockey, Rugby and Beach Volleyball, adding that the athletes will be screened to ensure that they adhere strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the competition, which stipulates that all participants aged 15 and below are qualified to feature in the tournament.

The commissioner disclosed further that over eight hundred athletes and two hundred and twenty officials will participate in the multi-ball sports preliminary competitions that are scheduled to hold from Saturday, August 16th, to Monday, August 18th, 2025.

Alhaja Wasilat Adegoke, however, enjoined the Oyo Team to intensify their efforts to emerge victorious in all the sports, adding that the state government will not relent in its efforts to provide necessary state-of-the-art facilities and modern equipment to enhance the performances of our athletes at the national and international levels.

The Oyo State Team came 7th at the last National Youth Games held in Asaba in the year 2024.
