From Medicine To Philanthropy: The Inspiring Story of Dr Adesina Abidikugu, Agbaakin Bobajiro of Ibadanland

In a world that constantly seeks true leadership anchored in intellect, compassion, and transformative vision, Dr. Adesina Kazeem Abidikugu shines as an extraordinary figure.

Recently honoured with the royal chieftaincy title of Agbaakin Bobajiro of Ibadanland, Dr. Abidikugu embodies the finest ideals of humanitarian excellence and cultural pride, a son of Ibadanland whose remarkable journey continues to inspire generations.

Born on March 11, 1972, in the ancient and noble city of Ibadan, he descends from the revered Abidikugu and Alawuje families, lineages deeply woven into the cultural and historical fabric of Ibadan. From his earliest years, he displayed a rare combination of intellectual brilliance and an unyielding commitment to service, traits that would define his path through life.

His educational journey began at Ebire Nursery and Primary School, Felele, Ibadan, where his character and intellect already stood out. At the prestigious Ibadan Grammar School, Molete, he distinguished himself both in academics and conduct, setting the stage for further achievement at the Oyo State College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, where he undertook his A-Levels. In 1990, he gained admission into the College of Medicine at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he excelled as a scholar of merit and graduated with honour.

During his internship at the University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, and his national youth service at the Federal Medical Centre in Yola, Dr. Abidikugu’s natural leadership began to shine even more clearly. As Medical Coordinator of the NYSC Orientation Camp and President of the Health Community Development Group, he championed vital medical outreaches that delivered care to hundreds of underserved people across Adamawa State.

His professional trajectory continued with his role as Senior Medical Officer at the Federal Capital Development Authority in Abuja, where he served with diligence and integrity before seeking advanced training in the United Kingdom. There he rose to the position of Consultant Psychiatrist within the National Health Service, his clinical expertise encompassing Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Learning Disability, and Neuropsychiatry. His exceptional work in this field has been formally recognised by the UK Secretary of Health, who described his contributions as exemplary.

An alumnus of the University of Birmingham, where he earned a master’s degree in Clinical Neuropsychiatry, Dr. Abidikugu is also a proud affiliate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and holds full membership of both the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and the General Medical Council in the UK.

His business interests span the United Kingdom, Nigeria, and Kenya, where he serves on the boards of multiple pioneering companies in sectors such as healthcare consultancy, property investment, sports development, logistics, and medical supplies. This breadth of engagement reflects his unrelenting commitment to innovation and development across the continent.

Central to his philanthropic legacy is the DAKA Foundation, which he founded and leads as CEO. Through this platform, he has pioneered transformative initiatives in education, healthcare access, and poverty alleviation, touching countless lives in Ibadanland and Oyo State. His passion for youth empowerment is also evident in his leadership of the DAKA Rovers Football Club, which serves as a beacon of hope for young talents through sport.

Over the years, Dr. Abidikugu’s devotion to humanity and his relentless drive to uplift his community have earned him multiple accolades. In 2025 alone, he was honoured with the CCII Award of Excellence as a Champion of Ibadan Culture, the AIONIAN Meritorious Award for Academic Excellence and Humanitarian Service, and the Beacon of Hope Youth Award by the National Youth Council of Nigeria.

In recognition of his exceptional service, steadfast commitment to humanitarian causes, and dedication to the progress and wellbeing of his people, the Olubadan-in-Council conferred upon him the prestigious title of Agbaakin Bobajiro of Ibadanland. This royal honour is not merely a symbol of his accomplishments but a lasting testament to his enduring legacy as a man of compassion, intellectual excellence, and transformative leadership.
