A former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, Asiwaju Adebayo Mutalubi Ojo, SAN, has urged the people of the state to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Sen. Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.
Ojo, an Ibadan-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria, made the call in a personally signed statement titled: “A Governor That Oyo State Needs in 2027,” in which he outlined the qualities he believes should define the state’s next governor.
He described Senator Alli as suited to provide the astute, compassionate and selfless leadership Oyo needs in 2027.
Ojo said Oyo needed a governor who would be an astute administrator, compassionate, selfless, firm and independent-minded, with genuine commitment to public service and the courage to take decisions in the overall interest of the people.
According to him, the next governor should not be driven by personal interests, rent-seeking, wheeling and dealing, excessive property acquisition or political patronage.
Ojo also stressed the need for a leader who would not operate as a protégé or stooge, but would remain independent and committed to protecting the interests of Oyo residents.
The former Attorney-General subsequently identified Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
“I urge people to support Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli of APC as the next Governor of Oyo State if you truly love Oyo State and you want a liberated Oyo State from modern-day Emperor and Government Reservation Areas Land Merchants,” Ojo said.
He said the choice of governor in 2027 should be guided by the need for competent and principled administration capable of putting the interests of the people above personal and political considerations.
Alli, a lawyer and serving senator representing Oyo South, was unveiled by the APC as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election alongside his running mate, Hon. Adesoji Adedeji, in Ibadan in July.
The APC candidate has said his proposed administration would focus on areas including agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, job creation, economic development, security and LG autonomy.
