Efficient Service Delivery: Commission Charges HLGAs to Comply With Policy Directives

Oyo State Local Government Service Commission has reiterated call on the need for the local government staff to be consistently guided by the extant service rules, and ensure strict compliance to establishment circulars and policy directives of the government aimed at ensuring efficient service delivery at the grassroots

The Chairman Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Aderemi Ayodele recently gave the charge at a meeting with the Heads and Acting Heads of Local Government Administration at the State Secretariat, Ibadan.

Dr Ayodele stated that it was important for the local administrators to work in tandem with the State government policy thrust for optimum performance in order to address the felt needs of the people in their council areas.

He pointed out that the local government service under the present administration has witnessed significant developments in terms of Staff welfare, capacity building and infrastructural development, urging all stakeholders to unite in supporting the administration’s quest for accelerated development of the grassroots.

In the same vein, Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Deacon Taiwo Olafimihan Adewale, craving for the support to raising the bar of the service, highlighted some of the milestone attained in the service by Governor Makinde’s administration.

He recounted that the administration inherited a backlog of salaries and leave bonuses arrears of some local government staff which were completely offset, aside from the clearing of six years of promotion arrears of civil/ public servants in the State, which till date, he declared, has addressed the issue of stagnation in the service.

The Permanent Secretary emphasized the need for the invited principal officers from the 33 local governments and 35 local council Development Areas of Oyo State to evolve ways to add value to the service, and ensure that their subordinates work in line with the extant rules and regulations of the local government service.

While reminding the local government staff of the consequences of flouting posting instructions and policy directives, Deacon Adewale stated that it was mandatory for all staff to always prepare hand-over notes for their successors whenever posted out to the new stations which he stressed as a matter of duty.

He equally implored them to desist from circulating unauthorized publication relating to the service, warning that the Commission would not hesitate to sanction any staff that runs foul of the service rules.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to performing its statutory responsibilities and would continue to sustain the dignity and integrity of the service.
