Festive Season Safety: Oyo Police Command and Culture & Tourism Ministry Partner for Success

The Oyo State Police Command and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism are ramping up their partnership to ensure safety and stability in the state, ahead of the bustling festive season and a surge in tourism. This development follows a courtesy visit by the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, to the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, where they highlighted the crucial role of security in fostering social and economic growth, particularly in the entertainment and tourism sectors.

Dr. Olatunbosun expressed his profound gratitude for the Police Command’s “steadfast dedication” to maintaining peace and stability, noting that these efforts are key to positioning Oyo State as a premier destination.

He stressed that forthcoming events, including the Ember Month celebrations and a series of programmes scheduled for the upcoming year, are expected to draw tourists, leading to increased occupancy in hotels, lounges, and clubs, and driving significant economic turnover through sightseeing and other activities.

In light of the anticipated increase in activity, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism underscored the necessity for strengthened collaboration between his ministry and the police command.

CP Femi Haruna assured Dr. Olatunbosun of the Command’s unwavering commitment to sustaining the relative calm across the state. He emphasised the significance of the partnership between law enforcement and cultural institutions, pledging to enhance collaboration with the Ministry to guarantee robust safety and security throughout the bustling festive season.

“This joint initiative is designed to not only endorse safety but also to maximise the potential of the culture and tourism sector as a vital catalyst for economic advancement in Oyo State,” he concluded.

In attendance were Mrs. Adejoke Agboola, Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Mr. Belumi Agboola, General Manager, Council of Arts and Culture; DCPs Abiodun Onuoha, James Ekanem, ACP Martins Bamigboye and all management team of Ministry of culture and tourism.
